What exactly is Material Exchange?

We are an intuitive marketplace for manufacturers to list, buy and sell raw excess inventory.

It’s very simple. We provide your company with a tool to monetize (turn into cash) raw excess inventory that may have been sitting in your warehouse for weeks, months or years tying up working capital (the vital substance of any profitable business).

We help manufacturers generate cash from sitting inventory, buy reduced quantities for jobs and avoid pesky Minimum Order Quantities from suppliers. Thus, we help other businesses buy the right quantities at the right price and allow them to source products, fulfill jobs and increase profits.

How do I create my First Listing?


  1. You can register here, it only takes a minute and we only ask a few details.
  2. Once you’ve created your account and verified your email, you can click here and go directly to our ‘sell an item’ portal. The system will request some additional information and voila. Your account is ready to post your first listing.
  3. You can edit your listing as many times as you’d like and we’ll notify you when and if someone’s got any questions about your product, or when and if it sells.

We told you. It’s Simple.

Do I need to link my bank account in order to use it?


The only time we request your banking details is when an item you listed sells. This account information is stored automatically by Stripe and will be used only for depositing your newly generated funds.

Will Material Exchange work on my mobile device?


If there’s a smartphone or tablet around, you can get all the features of our platform on the palm of your hand.

Is it available in my country?

We are currently available only in the USA and Canada.

Buying & Selling with Material Exchange

Is there a fee for listing materials on the platform?

No, fees are only collected once an item has sold and has been received and inspected by the buyer. A percentage of the seller’s proceeds is deducted as part of the exchange fee.

Trade Association members earn extra discounts on exchange fees. If you are a member of a trade association, you can click here to apply for a discount.

What is Material Exchange's Service Fee?


We charge sellers who offer products for sale a  20% service fee when items are sold. This is calculated based on the price of the listing and is automatically deducted from the seller’s payout.


We do not charge any buying fees for purchasing items through our platform.

What if I can't find what I'm looking for?

Creating an Alert is super easy. Just click the button as shown below and send your Alert. Our Sales Department will generate a request for the item and start searching for it. Once it’s found, you’ll be the first to know!

Can you help me list and sell an item?


If you need us to help you create listings or find a product you can:

a. Book a demo here, and we can guide you through a step-by-step on how to create a new listing.

b. Email us directly at sales@materialexchange.io if you’d like help improving the placement of an item, or if you’ve had an item listed for more than 60 days with no results.

What if I find what I'm looking for, but I need less of it, or need to know a specific detail on the item?

Can I make multiple listings at once?

Yes, you can!

Download this template and fill out the cells with your inventory items. Then, simply email it to sales@materialexchange.io. We will gladly upload your inventory for you and let you know when and if it gets sold.

How are the logistics arranged?

The coordination of logistics is arranged through the Material Exchange platform. Upon checkout, the buyer will be required to provide freight carrier account number. The seller will receive notification of a purchased listing, and they will begin the fulfillment process by confirming they have the material on hand and is ready to ship. The seller will use the freight carrier information to arrange pickup.

Is there an inspection period?

Once the materials are received by the buyer, there is a 72-hour window for the buyer to inspect the materials to ensure they are in the condition as sold. Upon approval of the materials by the buyer, the funds from the transaction are released to the seller.
